Examining international human rights frameworks for the protection of the human rights of the older person and the need to adopt a new treaty to better protect those rights. Research in the field of international human rights law and its implementation at the national level.

  • Expertise and experience in relation to the United Nations standards and human rights mechanisms and national mechanism for the implementation of human rights
  • Gender and international human rights and the human rights of persons with disabilities
  • Expertise in human rights of older persons and their protection under international law

Impact

  • Contributed to global diplomatic efforts to develop new instruments, including a complaints procedure to the CEDAW Convention, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Supported the work of a number of civil society organisations in Australia and abroad
  • Joint and individual submissions to Parliamentary and other inquiries on human rights and related matters, provided expert evidence and submission to courts and other bodies
